Shimla: Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) has temporarily banned digital payments for electricity bills through Paytm, Google Pay, and other platforms due to restrictions imposed by the Reserve Bank of India on the Bharat Bill Payment System.
Consumers will now have to visit the electricity board’s website, https://www.hpseb.in, or use the official mobile app to make payments through Mobikwik, PhonePe, Google Pay, and BHIM app.
Tanuj Gupta, executive engineer at the Shimla unit of the electricity board, explained that consumers used to directly pay their electricity bills through the UPI app by entering their meter number. However, some consumers have been unable to pay their bills directly through the mobile app recently, leading to this announcement.
The board has urged consumers to use the official website or mobile app for bill payments.
