Manali: The serene hill station of Manali, once celebrated for its natural beauty and spiritual allure, is now grappling with a grim incident that highlights a deeper issue affecting its tourism sector. A 22-year-old woman, Priscillia , was found dead under suspicious circumstances after being reported missing for a week. The tragic discovery has raised concerns about safety and the spiritual integrity of Manali’s tourist destinations.
Mystery Surrounds young girl’s death
Priscillia, a resident of Khnal in Old Manali, was last seen on August 7, when she left home to meet friends. Her body was discovered on August 14 near the Patlikuhal area, close to the Spain Resort, by the banks of the Beas River.

The local police, led by SP Kullu Gokulchandran, confirmed the recovery of the body but refrained from providing further details until a press conference later in the day. Persilia’s parents, with her mother hailing from Old Manali and her father being foreign, had reported her missing to the local police, who have since arrested two suspects, Nishant alias Nishu from Baragra, Kullu, and Archit from Pandoh, Mandi. The police are awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of death.

Dark Past: Haryana Tourist Murdered Girlfriend
In a harrowing incident in May 2024, a Haryana tourist has been accused of strangling his girlfriend from Madhya Pradesh in a Manali hotel room. After committing the crime, he allegedly stuffed her body into a suitcase with the intent to dispose of it at a remote location. The accused, who fled the scene, was apprehended a few hours later at the Kullu-Mandi border near Bajaura after taking a bus to escape. This grim event has cast a shadow over Manali, intensifying concerns about the town’s transition from a peaceful retreat to a problematic tourist destination.
