MANDI: Two Rajasthan tourists were killed while one suffered serious injuries when the car they were travelling in met with an accident near a construction site for a bridge on the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway near here.
According to information, the car driver lost control over the vehicle, following which it veered off the road. All the injured were admitted to Mandi District Hospital for treatment where two of them succumbed to injuries while the condition of the third persons was stated to be critical. The car bore Rajasthan registration number RJ14UK1052.
The car occupants were said to be en route to Manali. Upon reaching 7 Miles near Mandi, the car driver lost control over it and it fell into a stream where the construction work for the bridge was in progress and there were iron rods at the site. The car landed on the rods positioned at one corner of the under-construction bridge.
Local residents promptly initiated rescue efforts upon learning of the incident, taking out all the three persons after a significant effort and shifting them to the roadside. Subsequently, they were taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
Confirming the incident, Mandi Sadar police station SHO Sakini Kapoor said the police had started inquest proceedings after registering a case.
