MANDI: A political drama unfolded during Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi’s visit to the Seraj region of Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh where two factions of the local Congress clashed in his presence.

The incident occurred during the reception of prominent Congress leaders Jagdish Reddy and Chet Ram, with their supporters causing a stir as soon as the leaders arrived in Thunag.

Supporters of Jagdish Reddy raised slogans in an apparent show of strength, which escalated tensions between the rival factions. The confrontation shocked both Minister Negi and the assembled crowd, turning what was supposed to be a welcoming event into a chaotic scene.

Videos of the clash quickly went viral on social media, with BJP leaders amplifying the incident, highlighting the internal divisions within the Seraj Congress. Seraj is the home constituency of BJP leader of opposition and former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur.

According to BJP spokespersons, this incident has allegedly again exposed the factionalism festering within the local Congress unit.

Seraj Congress leader Vijaypal Singh downplayed the incident, saying, “In the heat of the moment, a small lapse in discipline occurred among Congress workers, but everything was later resolved. The programme of minister Jagat Singh Negi was ultimately successful.”

Despite these assurances, the clash has drawn significant attention, with critics questioning the stability and unity of the Congress in the region. The political drama, now making waves on social media, has raised concerns about the party’s internal cohesion ahead of future electoral challenges.
