185 candidates have been elected unopposed in Himachal’s tribal area general panchayat elections and by-elections in the general areas.
According to the State Election Commission, the nominations of 8 contenders have been rejected.
This now leaves 800 candidates in the fray for the posts of pradhan, up-pradhan, ward members, panchayat samiti member and zilla parishad for the upcoming elections, which will be held in two phases on September 29 and October 1.
Nomination papers A total of 1039 contenders had filed nomination papers for the 488 posts. Of these 130 have withdrawn their nomination papers.
Counting of votes for the posts of panchayat pradhan, up-pradhan and ward members will be done on the day of polling and results will be be declared immediately, while zilla parishad votes and those of the panchayat samiti members will be counted and declared on 4.
