Shimla: The Food and Supplies Department in Himachal Pradesh has blocked 17,065 ration cards of consumers who have failed to complete their e-KYC process. This means that these households will no longer be able to access subsidised rations from government depots until they comply with the e-KYC requirements.
In Kangra district alone, 9,569 ration cards have been blocked, with the department still in the process of targeting others. Similarly, in Chamba district, 7,496 ration cards have been blocked due to non-compliance with the e-KYC directive. The department has been tightening the noose across all districts, actively blocking ration cards where e-KYC has not been completed.
Govt had set September 30 deadline
Despite the September 30 deadline set by the department, thousands of families across the state have not yet updated their details. In Kangra, over 4 lakh individuals are yet to complete the e-KYC process. Statewide, around 16 lakh consumers are still pending, of the total 73 lakh ration card holders. So far, only 57 lakh consumers have completed their e-KYC.

App launch likely to streamline process
To streamline the process and offer more convenience, the department is preparing to launch an app that will allow consumers to complete their e-KYC from the comfort of their homes. This initiative is expected to expedite the process and ease the burden on both consumers and government offices.
Kangra’s Food and Supplies Controller, Purushottam Singh Panwar, urged residents to complete their e-KYC at the earliest to avoid disruptions in receiving subsidized food supplies. So far, around 76 per cent of Kangra’s ration card holders have updated their e-KYC, but 24 per cent remain unverified.
