1 crore tourists visit Himachal in first half of 2024, Kullu draws 4.73 lakh, Shimla at second spot
Himachal Pradesh has witnessed an unprecedented surge in tourism, attracting over one crore tourists in the first six months of 2024.
By the end of June, the state recorded 1,00,87,440 tourists, drawn by its picturesque valleys, pleasant climate and improved facilities provided by the state, said a government spokesperson.
Popular destinations such as Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala, Dalhousie, Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti remained top choices for visitors, with Kullu and Shimla districts leading the pack. Kullu alone drew 4,73,737 tourists while Shimla welcomed 4,48,392 visitors.
The trend has continued into July, thanks to favourable weather conditions and open roads, allowing tourists to escape the humid summer heat of the plains and enjoy the scenic beauty of Himachal Pradesh.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu assured that the majority of roads remain accessible despite recent weather challenges. “Most of the roads across the state remain open and accessible to tourists and the general public. Himachal is witnessing an influx of thousands of tourists in July, and these numbers are promising. We expect to surpass two crore visitors by the end of this year,” he said.
The Chief Minister emphasised the importance of tourists staying informed by checking the latest travel advisories and road conditions through district administration helplines, the police department and social media handles. “Tourists’ safety and enjoyment are our top priorities,” he added.
Sukhu reiterated the state government’s commitment to ensuring that visitors travelled safely and enjoyed their holidays at various destinations in Himachal Pradesh. He mentioned that the Public Works Department was working diligently to clear any road blockades and restore travel routes swiftly.
The Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation was also encouraging tourists to check for updates on specific routes and travel with confidence, he said, adding regular updates on road conditions were being provided by the district administration and the Himachal police to ensure tourists did not face any inconvenience during their stay in the state.
